December is the season of Wonderment at The Lyman Allyn Art Museum, New London, CT.

The Unicorn Stampede:  Opening at 10 AM, Friday, November 29, 2013

A stampede of glitter unicorns will run wild at the Lyman Allyn Art Museum this holiday season. Frolic in a fantasy world of magic brought to life by Manhattan artist Camomile Hixon.  This young, international artist will install 24 “life – size” unicorns, enhanced with 750 pounds of glitter.  The glittered room of Unicorns will lend an unforgettable air of celebratory magic to this Holiday season.  Open Daily through January 5th, except Mondays.

Tea with the Unicorns:  Every Sunday in December from 2- 3:30 PM

Each Sunday in December, the Lyman Allyn Art Museum will host a tea party for families from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM.  Parties will include snacks and a hands-on art project, scavenger hunts and more!  Reservations are required and space is limited.  Call (860) 443-2545 x129 for reservations and more information.

Sparkle!: A Carefully Curated Holiday Boutique.

Preview Party from 5 – 9 PM, Friday, December 6, 2013
Shopping 10 AM – 4 PM Saturday December 7

The Lyman Allyn Art Museum will host the second annual Sparkle! Holiday Boutique December 6th and 7th.  A list of vendors and tickets for the Preview Party are available at www.lymanallyn.org or by calling (860) 443-2545 x129.

Proceeds from the weekend help support the Lyman Allyn Yellow Bus Fund which covers the cost of field trips for schools that would normally find this cost prohibitive. The subsidy includes the cost of transportation, a tour, materials for a “hands-on” curriculum-based project, and the art educators.

Lyman Allyn Art Museum is a community-based museum located in New London, Connecticut.  Founded in 1932 by Harriet Upson Allyn in memory of her father, Lyman Allyn, the museum serves the people of Southeastern Connecticut and is admission is free to New London residents. The museum is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and is a non-profit organization with 501(c) 3 status.  Housed in a handsome Neo-Classical building designed by Charles A. Platt, the permanent collection includes over 10,000 paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, furniture and decorative arts, with an emphasis on American and European art from the 17th through 20th centuries.

 

The museum is located at 625 Williams Street, New London, Connecticut, exit 83 off I-95.  The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Sundays 1 – 5 PM; closed Mondays and major holidays.
