This painting caught my eye with all of the amazing details. If I look at a piece of art with details I pretend that I am part of the painting. I can picture myself in the sun, helping out, or wandering around the house. I wrote a little story about what I think is happening in this painting:

The men are working very hard in the hot summer. They rush before it turns to night. Pulling, pushing and running; they sweat from the heat of the afternoon. As they grow hungry from working hard all day, you hear the sound of grumbling stomachs. The women are watching their children with care. Some children are helping their mothers pick flowers, the scent of roses and tulips in the air. Other children are swimming or playing in the cool rushing spring water. Everyday in the afternoon the train passes by loudly, leaving behind thick black smoke in the air. Cows sit gazing at the river, thinking of drinking cool refreshing water.

Our exhibitions have been funded in part by generous grants from the Frank Loomis Palmer Fund, Bank of America, Trustee and the Connecticut Humanities Council, with support from the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism.
