Sculpture (introduction to clay and plaster) with Margaret Cherubin
Tuesdays, 10 am to 12 pm
October 7 – November 11
Students will be introduced to the concepts of form, mass, space and scale using clay. The focus will be to concentrate on art as it exists in three dimensions and how it is viewed from 360 degrees. Students can progress from there to making plaster molds of simple sculptures and casting them in plaster, or, if they prefer, they will have the opportunity to build wire armatures to make larger plaster sculptures. Future classes will be developed to teach how to sculpt a portrait head.

Drawing with Margaret Cherubin
Fridays, 10 am to 12 pm
October 10 – November 14
The development of powers of observation is the focus for this class. Students will learn to see as artists see, using relationships between lines, forms, shadow, negative space and the edges of the paper itself to replicate what is before them. Drawing is a coordination of hand and eye, and is also an extremely enjoyable and relaxing activity. Drawing on the right side of the brain encourages a neglected part of our mind to develop, leading to visual thinking and surprisingly accurate results.
Watercolor Painting with Margaret Cherubin
Saturdays, 10 am to 12 pm
October 11- November 15
Watercolors require a light touch and keen observation. This class will introduce students to the use of the white of the paper, various techniques such as dry brush, wet-on-wet painting, etc. to create their paintings. Emphasis will be on spontaneity, composition, color relationships, dark and light and the use of negative space. Working from life instead of photographs will be encouraged.
