Summer Art Immersion: Art Camps for Children & Teens
The museum’s hands-on art camps, designed for aspiring artists ages 5-15, provide a wonderful opportunity for children and teens to learn new artistic techniques, explore the museum’s collections, and make new friends. In addition to completing special themed projects, participants will also paint outside in the museum’s garden, design their own portfolio and tour a special exhibition entitled: Play/Things: Toys & the Invention of Modern Childhood. All camps meet Tuesday-Friday from 9:30am-12:30pm. Cost is $120 members/$130 non-members.
Session #1 June 29-July 2: Animals in Art (ages 5-7)
After animal eye-spy tours of the collections, participants will create an impressionist water lily pond filled with turtles and frogs, build a 3ft-long caterpillar, and design a rainbow fish sun catcher.
Session #2 July 6-July 9: Printing & Painting (ages 8-11)
Participants will learn new print-making techniques as they use foam, bubbles, solar paper, and their fingers to create original prints. A special birdhouse painting project will also be completed.
Session #3: July 20-23: Faeries & Gnomes (ages 5-7)
After searching for faeries & gnomes in the museum’s sculpture gardens, participants will create their own faerie houses, magic wands, crowns and hats, and magical potions.
Session #4 July 27-30: Advanced Art Salon (ages 12-15)
Participants will explore shading and perspective through charcoal and pastel drawing, learn about painting composition, and master positive/negative space as they build their own sculptures.
Session #5 August 3-6: Sculpture & Sculpting (ages 8-11)
After touring the museum’s sculpture collections, participants will design and create their own original wooden sculptures, clay figures, and paper mobiles.
