In celebration of Safe Futures 40th anniversary, the New London-based organization will be mounting an exhibition in Lyman Allyn’s Glassenberg Gallery, entitled In Their Shoes. The exhibition springs from the question, “how can a pair of shoes or 170 pairs of shoes bring awareness and hope to the survivors of domestic violence?”

This art installation by Pamela Pike Gordinier & Julia Pavone will use shoes as a symbol for awareness and change.  Each pair of new shoes collected will represent the demographics of the survivors who received emergency care in the shelter at Safe Futures last year including women, children, and men. In this installation the shoes will be arranged in a labyrinth within the gallery, acting as a vehicle for contemplation. Once the exhibit closes, all the shoes will be donated to Safe Futures for distribution in the community.
