Reception 5:30 pm
Presentation 6:00 pm

Join Dr. Anne Dawson, Guest Curator and Professor of Art History at Eastern Connecticut State University, for an exploration of the life and work of artist J. Alden Weir. Weir owned two Connecticut farms at opposite ends of the state, in Branchville and Windham. Both locales remained central to Weir’s life and art until his death in 1919, when he was buried at Windham Center in the family plot of his in-laws, the Bakers. This talk will focus on Weir’s life and work in Windham, where he painted some of his most famous canvases, including The Red Bridge (Metropolitan Museum of Art) and several versions of the Willimantic thread factories.
