Please join us for a poetry reading by nationally acclaimed poet Margaret Gibson.  As part of the programming for Inside the Natural World of Jan Beekman, Gibson will read poems that have a special resonance with Beekman’s paintings.  Margaret Gibson is the author of 10 books of poems, the most recent soon to be released in September, 2014:  BROKEN CUP.  She will be reading from that collection as well as from earlier, prize-winning collections, in particular ONE BODY  and SECOND NATURE.  She has received awards from the Poetry Society of America, The Academy of American Poets, and the National Endowment for the Arts.  Her book The THE VIGIL was a finalist for the National Book Award in Poetry in 1993. Gibson has been a Visiting Professor at Connecticut College and was for many years Poet in Residence at the University of Connecticut.  She is active with a local land trust organization, Avalonia, which preserves natural spaces, keeping these irreplaceable resources from development and open to the public.
