Customized Art Workshops
The Lyman Allyn will not be holding Scout/Brownie troop programs through December 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The museum’s 90 minute art workshops for Girl Scouts, Brownies, Boy Scouts, and Cub Scouts can be customized to fit any badge, belt loop or artist pin requirements.
Workshops are offered after school from 3:45-5:15 pm or on select Saturday mornings. Prices start at $8.00 per student (includes museum admission, guided tour and all art supplies) and two leaders are free with the group. To create a customized workshop or make a reservation, please contact the education department at 860.443.2545 x2140 or email gipstein@lymanallyn.org.
Example lesson plan: Learning about Landscapes
After an interactive tour—focusing on landscapes and seascapes from the permanent collection—participants will try their hand at designing and painting their own landscape or seascape on real canvas board. All art materials (canvas, palettes, acrylic paints, brushes, buckets and smocks) are provided.
Objectives covered:
- List common materials used to create visual art compositions
- Demonstrate how six of the following elements of design are used in drawing: lines, circles, dots, shapes, colors, patterns, textures, space, balance or perspective
- Identify the three primary colors and the secondary colors that can be made by mixing them
- Use the primary and secondary colors to create a painting
