1988.2 Rodvogin
Harris Rodvogin, Self Portrait, Thinking of Van Gogh, 1980, oil on panel. Gift of the artist, 1988.2.

A follow up exhibition to our very popular 2014 show Still Life Studio, The Gaze Returned seeks once again to engage visitors by encouraging them to see with an artist’s eye. Featuring more than two dozen portraits from the museum’s permanent collection, the exhibit also invites visitors to try their hand at drawing, sketching either a companion’s portrait or a self-portrait with the aid of a mirror. Works in the exhibit will range from 16th century Italian and Flemish paintings to modern American photographic portraits and will include paintings by 18th and 19th century southeastern Connecticut portraitists Mary Way and Isaac Sheffield.
