Outreach Programs

The Lyman Allyn Outreach Program offers the opportunity to bring art education outside of the walls of our Museum and into the community. Participants are introduced to a variety of art movements, artists, and mediums with which they can explore their own creativity and imagination. Below are our current program options, each designed for up to 20 participants.

For more information regarding pricing, availability, and customizing a program, please contact Sophia Gipstein Scirico, Outreach Coordinator, at gipstein@lymanallyn.org or 860.443.2545 ext. 2110.

Red, Yellow, Blue!
Preschool – Kindergarten; 45 minutes
Students will first read a colorful story to review the basics of primary and secondary colors. After, students will enjoy some paint mixing of their own as they create a beautifully painted canvas.

Palette Night
All ages; 60-90 minutes
School and work hours too busy? Let the Lyman Allyn create an evening activity for your school, friend group, or organization. Popular projects include painting on canvas and faux stained glass inspired by our two permanent exhibitions, American Perspectives and Tiffany in New London.

Annual Programs
Adaptable for all ages; 60 minutes
Planning ahead? Want to focus on a holiday or specific theme? We have got you covered with a variety of projects that will highlight month long celebrations or focus on a specific day. Select from one of these themed months:

  • Black History Month (February)
Participants will learn about an African American artist, and then create their own work of art inspired by the artists chosen medium. Previously featured artists: Faith Ringgold, Jacob Lawrence, Amy Sherald, and Kehinde Wiley.
  • Women’s History Month (March)
Participants will learn about a female artist, and then create their own work of art inspired by the artists chosen medium. Previously featured artists: Niki De Saint Phalle, Tekla Zweir, Yayoi Kusama, and Georgia O’Keeffe.
  • Earth Day is every day! (April)
April is all about highlighting an Earth Day Network campaign to help bring awareness to climate change. Previous campaigns: Reduce Plastic Waste (color your own tote bag), Protect our Species (Animal Masks), Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (Assemblage).
  • Random Acts of Kindness (November)
November 13th is World Kindness Day, a day dedicated to spreading joy and kindness to friends and strangers. Inspired by The Kindness Rocks Project, participants will decorate a kindness rock and/or card with an inspiring message. Remember to decorate one to take home and another to leave behind or hand out!
  • Winter Wonderment (December)
Our annual Wonderment exhibition is this project’s chosen inspiration! Each year a new project is created to tie in with the artist, medium, and theme on view in the Museum’s Glassenberg Gallery.
