Over a long and productive career in sculpture, artist Howard McCalebb (American, b. 1947) has been inspired by the myriad shapes and forms that emerge from the matrix of the Golden Ratio. This exhibition features a selection of the artist’s small and mid-size sculptures, drawings, paintings, and collages.

For McCalebb, the Golden Ratio and the use of near primary colors offer a structure that transcends culture and grounds his practice in a universal formula. McCalebb’s large-scale sculptures and other works have been exhibited across the United States and in Germany, Norway, Denmark, Bulgaria, China, and the United Arab Emirates, and his work is held in museums and collections worldwide. For the last few years, Howard McCalebb has lived and worked in Norwich, Connecticut, operating the studio and gallery Dada Post USA. Prior to that, he spent over a decade in Berlin, Germany, running the gallery and artist residency (Kunstraum) Dada Post.

Originally from San Jose, California, McCalebb holds an MFA in Sculpture from Cornell University and a BA in sculpture from California State University at Hayward. He has taught fine art at San Jose State University, California; the University of Massachusetts, Amherst; the University of North Carolina, Greensboro; Rutgers University, Newark; Hunter College, New York; Cornell University; Graduate School of Pratt Institute; Parsons School of Design / The New School, and Amherst College.
