About the Authors
Susan Hendricks is the Managing Director of the Estate of Barkley L. Hendricks, honoring the artist’s iconic portrayal of African American identity and culture, expanding his reach through engagement with museums, galleries, and cultural institutions. She works to ensure that Hendricks’ groundbreaking contributions to contemporary art remain accessible to future generations and are recognized for their profound impact on both art history and social discourse.
David Katzenstein is a New York based photographer, who throughout his career has traveled the world to visually chronicle humanity. In 2018, he formed the nonprofit organization, The Human Experience Project, that creates content to support the mission of organizations who work to inspire lifelong learning and strengthen our communities. He is also the managing editor of the Barkley L. Hendricks Photography Archive. He is the author of books Ritual (2022) and Distant Journeys (2024), and of Brownie (Fall 2025).
