THE SEASON OF WONDERMENT AT LYMAN ALLYN ART MUSEUM
New London – The Lyman Allyn Art Museum kicks off its Season of Wonderment on Saturday, Nov. 23 with the opening of its newest family-friendly exhibit, Grand Menagerie: Animals in Art! Throughout November and December, an array of activities and programs will provide holiday fun for the whole family. Please reserve your spots for programs that require RSVPs early. Check out the list below for more details.

Grand Menagerie: Animals in Art! Opening 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019
From the earliest cave drawings, to the sleekest modern art, the animal world has always been a source of inspiration. Discover a zoo’s worth of animals existing within the museum’s collection – in paintings, ceramics, sculpture, drawings, bronze, textiles and more. With over 50 artworks and artifacts on display from the museum’s collection and interactive fun for all ages, Grand Menagerie promises something for everyone in your herd! The exhibit will be on view through Jan. 26, 2020.

Cupcakes & Cocoa Family Parties: Nov.  24, Dec. 1, 8 & 15, 1 – 3 p.m.
Join us for a fun-filled afternoon beginning with a hot chocolate bar and festive treats in the elegant Hendel Library. After, children and adults can find a zoo’s worth of animals in a Grand Menagerie themed I-Spy activity. Once the exploring is complete, everyone will head to the studio to sculpt their own exotic animals out of clay! The event price is $15 for adults, $12 for kids, and free for children 3 and under. Full payment is required at the time of reservation. Space is limited; please call 860.443.2545 ext. 2129 to reserve your spot.

Free First Saturday: Saturday, Dec. 7, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Spend a lovely winter day exploring the museum and join us in the art studio from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. to create snowstorm paintings. Free admission for everyone all day.

Science Saturday: Saturday, Dec. 21, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Create a river of cascading colors during this exciting frozen rainbow eruption activity. Free with admission.
